What are the most common causes of infertility?
Couples may be infertile for a number of reasons. In women, the main reasons include salphinx disturbance, hormonal disorders, congenital developmental defects of the uterus, endometriosis, immunological factors and others.
The sperm quality is the main factor of the male infertility. Beside poor spermiogram values, the male fertility may be influenced by the immediate state of health, urogenital infections, varicocele, gonaduct defects and other factors affecting the sperm production.
In many cases, the causes of infertility in men and women complement each another.
Basic examination
As follows from the above outline of the causes of infertility, the diagnostics of this disease is complicated and it is therefore differentiated into an outpatient gynaecology department and Centre of Assisted Reproduction. Your gynaecologist is able to perform most of the basic examinations.
Basic examinations include: family, personal and gynaecological history, basal temperature curve, endometrium microabrasion, microbial picture of the vagina, oncological cytology, colposcopy, and, if necessary, the X-ray examination of the uterus.
In the Centre of Assisted Reproduction, these examinations are complemented with laboratory hormonal examination, ultrasound spermiogram examination, or even a complex diagnostic laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are made.
After determining the diagnosis, the optimal course of treatment is proposed to the infertile couple. One of the treatments used are the methods and techniques of extracorporeal insemination, the so-called assisted reproduction. You can learn more about the organisation of the treatment cycle and about the different methods from the physicians involved in the Assisted Reproduction Programme at the Centre and at the subsequent consultation.
Aims of the Assisted Reproduction Treatment Cycle:
1. obtaining eggs and sperm
2. extracorporeal insemination of the eggs
3. embryo transfer into the uterus
4.pregnancy and a delivery of a healthy baby
