Introduction

Dear friends,

the first 'test-tube baby' in the Czech Republic, and Central and Eastern Europe was born in our IVF centre in 1982. Since then, the assisted reproduction methods have made a major progress and have become an integral part of the reproduction medicine. Today, the assisted reproduction techniques represent the most progressive approach to the treatment of infertility.

This 'Guide' is intended to make you better understand the issues relating to infertility, artificial insemination, and a range of administrative measures accompanying the treatment cycle in our clinic. The scope of this Guide does not allow us to give you a detailed explanation of individual techniques and procedures. Please address your questions to our physicians and nurses from the Assisted Reproduction Programme who will be happy to give you detailed information.

More than twenty years of clinical experiencies based on our research activities are reflected in the treatment results achieved, which are on a part with those of the leading world IVF centers. At present, our Centre offers all currently used methods and techniques of assisted reproduction, including micromanipulations and the egg and embryo donor programmes.

The center achieved the certification of EN ISO 9001:2000 standard in 2002. In May 2002 our department achieved Certificate of Acreditation of The European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG) as an accredited European Training Centre.

We would like to thank you for the confidence you have given to the team of the Centre of Assisted Reproduction of the Dept. of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Brno, and I hope that you will successful complete your treatment and will achieve your aim - to have your own baby.

Brno, 4 January 2010

Professor Pavel Ventruba, MD, D.Sc.
Head of the Centre of Assisted Reproduction
